Get FiT!

Well let me just begin this blog post by stating that I never in a million years would have thought I would be talking about how much a am loving RUNNING!! Of all the things to do in this world it has become a guilty pleasure of mine thanks to the push of my wonderful husband! haha
Lets behind with the story behind it all, for those of you that didn't know this my husband Matt is a huge runner he absolutely loves it, and is very very good at it! Of course I knew this before I married him and always thought it was so awesome that he loved it and he would always ask me, "When we get married are you going to come running with me?" Most of the time I would reply with, "I would like to", or "Maybe". In my head though all I could think was there is no way I can run with you dude, I wouldn't be able to keep up! haha. Working at the gym I was all about but running I was extremely skeptical about. Not only have a never really enjoyed running but I also had problems with my knees for years and just put it off not really caring about it or saying, "maybe I will get them fixed one day." But since Matt was so serious about me running with him after we got back from our honeymoon and into the real world he was determined to get me on my feet and exercising which I was all about! But it was hard for me, on my knees which would take a toll on my whole body and then I would get very discouraged and very down on myself because I wanted to just be able to get in shape again and make Matt proud that I was trying to work hard. To be honest anytime Matt would say, "okay lets go to the gym!" I just wanted to crawl under the bed. Pathetic right? So after a couple times of us going to the gym and be wanting to die after Matt decided I was going to see a doctor! I went to a specialist and thankfully I didn't have to hear the thing I was most scared of hear (you have to have surgery) biggest blessing ever! I was told that it actually wasn't my knees at all, to put it in simple terms that muscles around my knee were just not strong enough to support it so because of that it would be a lot of strain on them and cause them to swell because my knees were doing all the work not my calf muscles. So with a good solid four weeks of physical therapy I was in tip top shape! During these four weeks outside of physical therapy we were still going to the gym and trying to run. One day Matt came home from work and was telling me about this new show that he had found to watch while he was there (the employees watch hulu to stay awake while they are working since they are in front of a computer screen all day) of course I was very interested to hear all about it. He told me it was called Extreme Weight Loss. He then went on explaining to me how the show works and how inspired he has become at what the trainer, Chris Powell does with these people that are so over weight. I was more then intrigued by this because I love shows like that. I wanted to start watching it right after he told me about it. That Saturday Matt was still on such a high from this show that he really wanted to go for a run up the canyon, I thought it might be fun so I agreed. Man was I struggling! We walked part of it, ran part of it and didn't even go all the way Matt wanted to. I was so so upset with myself and let pride get the better of me and took it out on my dear sweet husband who was only trying to help me. When I was finally willing to learn it started getting a little easier, that is when we decided to make a goal that we are going to run EVERY DAY for the rest of the year! I thought this would be a great challenge and a fun thing for the both of us to do together! Week one flew by, in the middle of week one I watched a couple of the older episodes of the show, and holy crap was I so emotionally invested! Chris Powell is freaking AMAZING! The passion and drive he has to help these people that he chooses is so incredible, and the trust and faith these people gain in him and themselves is so cool to watch! So I would just like to give a shout out to Chris Powell, he will probably never read this but, thank you for being such an inspiration to my husband and I and helping us motive and push each other just from watching the show. It sounds very silly yes but it is really a good motivator! Especially for Matt and I to meet the two goals we have set for us; the running one, and we also when we first got married in us constantly talking about running or going to the gym told each other: "We are going to be that different married couple that does NOT gain weight after getting married!" As sad as it is its true it happens a lot and we want to beat that! Hopefully we can continue sticking to our goal and MEET it ram into it head on knowing that we kicked butt and put our heart and soul into it!
